Dear all at first thank you to all for giving support and courage to write this blog about NDT methods and its certifications.

we are very glad to informed that we began to start this unstoppable
  journey in NDT , WELDING , QA/QC . etc.
Our first series will be on NDT methods like MT , UT , RT , PT ,

so , now lets start on this blog descriptions on LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING  it will be very helpful those who eager to learn new - new things in NDT facts.

Our first blog will be on LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING

CHAPTER 1
APPLICATION , TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS.

here you will learn in depth what is NDT ? , what is use of NDT , how many level in NDT certifications , duties of NDT level 1 & II and level III
when NDT certifications will be expire ? , what is vision examination ,  what will be criteria of vision exam.
so now lets go in depth and will be all explained here in as per latest editions.

Qualification and certifications of NDT personnel in accordance with this recommendations practice as per SNT -TC- 1A 2020.

Ø  It is important that the technician and supervisor be qualified in the Dye Penetrant Testing method before the technique is used and test results evaluated.

Ø  The American society for nondestructive testing recommends the use of its document recommended practice no. SNT-TC-1A 2020.

Ø  This document provides the employer with the necessary guidelines to properly qualify and certify the NDT technician in all methods.

Ø  To comply with this document the employer  must establish a "written practice" which describes in detail how the technician will be trained, examined, and certified.

Ø  The student is advised to study Latest edition of SNT-TC-1A  2020 to determine the recommended number of hours of classroom instruction and months of experience necessary to be certified as a Dye Penetrant Testing technician.

    1. There are three basic levels of qualification. The employer may subdivide these levels for situations where additional levels are deemed necessary for specific skills and responsibilities.
    2. While in the process of being initially trained, qualified, and certified, an individual should be considered a trainee. A trainee should work with a certified individual. The trainee should not independently conduct, interpret, evaluate, or report the results of any NDT test.

The recommended technical knowledge and skill sets for the three basic levels of qualification are as follows:

NDT Level I. An NDT Level I individual should have sufficient technical knowledge and skills to be qualified to properly perform specific calibrations, specific NDT, and specific evaluations for acceptance or rejection determinations according to written instructions and to record results. The NDT Level I should receive the necessary instruction and supervision from a certified NDT Level II or III individual.

NDT Level II. An NDT Level II individual should have sufficient technical knowledge and skills to be qualified to set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications. The NDT Level II should be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which qualified and should exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of trainees and NDT Level I personnel. The NDT Level II should be able to organize and report the results of NDT tests

q  NDT Level III. An NDT Level III individual should have sufficient technical knowledge and skills to be capable of developing, qualifying, and approving procedures, establishing and approving techniques, interpreting codes, standards, specifications, and procedures; and designating the particular NDT methods, techniques, and procedures to be used.

    1. The NDT Level III should be responsible for the NDT operations for which qualified and assigned and should be capable of interpreting and evaluating results in terms of existing codes, standards, and specifications.
    2. The NDT Level III should have sufficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology to establish techniques and to assist in establishing acceptance criteria when none are otherwise available

The NDT Level III should have general familiarity with other appropriate NDT methods, as demonstrated by an ASNT Level III Basic examination or other means. The NDT Level III, in the methods in which certified, should have sufficient technical knowledge and skills to be capable of training and examining NDT Level I, II, and III

personnel for certification in those methods.

q  Vision Examinations

Near-Vision Acuity. The examination should ensure natural or corrected near-distance acuity in at least one eye such that the applicant is capable of reading a minimum of Jaeger Number 2 (J2) or equivalent type and size letter at the distance designated on the chart but not less than 12 in. (30.5 cm) on a standard Jaeger test chart.

This should be administered annually.

Color Contrast Differentiation. The examination should demonstrate the capability of distinguishing and differentiating contrast among colors or shades of gray used in the method as determined by the employer. This should be conducted upon initial certification and at five-year intervals thereafter.(ISHIHARS’S CHART TEST)

Vision examinations expire on the last day of the month of expiration.

Ø  The SNT-TC-1A document recommends that NDT LEVEL I and NDT LEVEL II technicians be examined in the following areas:

    1. General examination
    2. Specific examination
    3. Practical examination

Ø  The SNT-TC-1A document recommends that NDT LEVEL III personnel be examined in the following areas:

    1. Basic examination
    2. Method examination
    3. Specific examination
    • ASNT PROVIDES A SERVICE to the industry by providing LEVEL III examinations in the BASIC AND METHOD AREAS.  Because of the individual requirements of the many industries using NDT, the SPECIFIC EXAMINATION is still the  RESPONSIBILITY OF THE EMPLOYER.
